My mom always told me that there was a rule to when we where allowed to wear bare feet. Any month that had an ‘R’ in it required shoes on the feet (flipflops where allowed near the end of the month early in the year, and in the beginning of the month at the end of the year). That meant, May/June/July/August where months in the green, and September/October/November/December/January/February/March/April where in the red. I LOVEd bare feet, and fought this every year.
I think I have finally defeated the fact that I too needed to follow mom’s rule. LOL. No, don’t get me wrong, I think there was some value to it, and I still think I personally wouldn’t wear bare feet without flipflops this time of year…but why put a rule on it? It just means we want to break it all the more. Once the ground is warm enough for the feet to not freeze in a few minutes, lets go!
This last week I was challenged by my mom on this one. I allowed the girls to run around with flip flops outdoors. The reason this came about was quite innocent. We had no fancy sox or tights for the girls last sunday, so they ran around at the Church Easter program meal with shoes and bare feet. Needless to say, the friction caused a few blisters to appear throughout the week. This led to some struggles with shoes. That’s why we broke the rules. I promise mom. :)
